“The Walking Dead” Actor Aims to End Pit Bull Stereotypes

The Animal Farm Foundation created a public service announcement and media campaign featuring actor Jon Bernthal, known for his work in "The Walking Dead" and "The Wolf of Wall Street." Bernthal says that pit bull owners often encounter stereotypes not only about the dogs but also themselves. He says the breed's reputation for violence is unfair and that the overwhelming majority of pit bull owners are no different from other dog owners. Bernthal says he hopes the effort destigmatizes the breed and prompts more people to adopt the dogs. (client)

The New App For Finding a Roommate in NYC

A new mobile app, Roomi, will launch next week, which may help assist New Yorkers in their hunt for a roommate in the city. It allows users to create a personality profile, similar to dating apps, and text safely with prospective roommates using Facebook.  It’s supposed to create a fun and safe environment instead of using Craigslist. During a test, 100,000 downloads in a beta test occurred last year. Besides Facebook, Roomi is working on integrating its app with Instagram and LinkedIn to help give the compelling edge over Craigslist.

Keurig Green Mountain, the single-serve coffee company, is launching a new line of Laughing Man coffee pods, filled with ground java from Hugh Jackman's Laughing Man coffee company. Inspired by a visit to Africa, Jackman launched the business "to bring distinctive products to market while supporting individual producers and the growth of local communities.” The company has pledged to donate 100 percent of its profits toward improving communities in the developing world.

Mets Star Drops by Delta Dugout Ahead of Next Start as Team Sits in First

Mets pitcher (and fan favorite) Matt Harvey took to the streets of New York, specifically outside the Flatiron Building, to surprise fans as part of the Delta Dugout promotion.  A replica of the Queens-centric Mets dugout at 23rd and Broadway caused quite a scene in the middle of the day over one of MLB’s finest.  Fans were given the opportunity to win prizes, including free tickets and photos with the Dark Knight himself.

Dixie Asks People to Turn Off Their Phones For Dinner

The "Dark for Dinner” campaign is an effort from Georgia-Pacific's paper plate brand, Dixie, to encourage people to give up their electronic devices for one dinner a week. Dixie is asking consumers to let the virtual world know they're disconnecting, put their devices away and share their experiences after the meal with the hashtag #DarkforDinner. The campaign will begin on June 14 and will run for the following six Sundays with a new theme each week.

Airbnb Gives The Gift of Travel With Digital Gift Cards

Short-term rental company Airbnb just made your next birthday/graduation/anniversary present a cinch by introducing brand new digital gift cards. Customers can send friends and family the gift of travel through Airbnb’s website to then be used on any of the company’s listings worldwide. The gift cards can even be personalized with different travel photos, and recipients won’t have to rush to use them, since the credits will not expire.

This Pizza Hut Box Turns Into a Movie Projector

Dinner and a movie will be elevated to a new level by Pizza Hut in Hong Kong. The pizza chain is delivering certain pizzas in specially-designed boxes that convert into pseudo movie projectors. A very unique pizza table (also called a pizza protector) then serves as the projector's lens that blows up the consumer’s phone display onto any nearby wall.

Hulu is Creating “Seinfeld” Real-World NYC Apartment

Hulu has announced that the brand will stream Seinfeld’s full catalogue and in order to celebrate the June 24 launch, Hulu has built a real-life version of Jerry’s iconic Upper West Side NYC apartment. This attraction will feature multiple interactive elements which will allow fans to be involved in major series moments, including George’s Valentine’s Day photo shoot and Kramer’s famed barge-in entrance. The Seinfeld apartment will be open at 451 West 14th Street, from June 24-28, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in collaboration with Magnetic Collaborative.

Virgin Goes Back to Its Roots With The Sex Pistols Credit Cards

Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Money may not want total Anarchy in the U.K., but the brand is out to change the industry and encourage people to Never Mind the Bollocks (in banking). The edgy financial company has partnered with The Sex Pistols, the band that Branson’s Virgin Records signed back in 1977, and released two credit cards featuring the imagery from the band’s popular song and album. As the financial services branch of Branson’s empire continues to expand, it wants to encourage others in the industry to be simple, open, transparent, and fair to its employees.
