Thanksgiving Travel: Best And Worst Times to Drive

Waze, the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app, conducted a survey based on user’s travel experiences from Thanksgiving 2014. Last year, users reported a 323 percent increase in traffic jams, 112 percent increase in accidents, 79.8 percent increase in hazards and 100.2 percent increase in police alerts. This year, to avoid the hassle, Waze suggests traveling on Thursday and Friday, but if absolutely necessary to travel on Wednesday, to acknowledge the peak travel schedule resulting from its research findings in order to avoid major traffic jams.

Purina Kicks Off #DogThanking Promo With Johnny Weir

From now through Nov. 29, Purina is inviting dog owners to post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tell the world why they are thankful for their dog. For every original post submitted that includes @Purina and the hashtag, #dogthanking, Purina will donate one dollar to the AKC Canine Health Foundation – up to $75,000 – to help further pet health research. To kick of the campaign, Olympic figure skater Jonny Weir thanked his dog Tema in preparation for the 14th National Dog Show, airing at noon on Nov. 26 on NBC.

La Brea Bakery launched a social media campaign, “Thanksgiving Heroes,” to recognize and reward those who have to work on Thanksgiving Day. Friends and family can nominate their #ThanksgivingHero to La Brea Bakery’s Facebook page for a chance to win them a Thanksgiving meal at their place of work on Nov. 26. Five winners will be selected from across the country through public voting on Facebook.

Verizon is Giving Away 1GB of Free Data Right Now For 'Thanksgetting'

For the 2nd straight year, Verizon is trying to turn the day before Thanksgiving into a day of freebies to promote its products, as well as others. Verizon is handing out 1GB of free data to everyone on Verizon with a qualifying plan;  all customers have to do is visit the Verizon Wireless website, tap the “Get Now” link, sign-in to their account and claim. The data will then be added to qualifying accounts for use.

Minnesota Offers Free Admission to State Parks on 'Black Friday'

This may be the first time a U.S. state is offering its very own Black Friday deal- Minnesota is offering free admission to its 76 state parks and recreation areas on Black Friday to get residents out of the stores and into the wilderness. With significant backlash against the retail ‘holiday’ in recent years, Minnesota is hoping to encourage families and loved ones to spend time together, and get a little free exercise, while experiencing the natural beauty that the state has to offer.

Patti LaBelle’s Sweet Potato Pie Flies Off Shelves After Viral Video

Patti LaBelle’s sweet potato pie went viral over the weekend, when one Wal-Mart customer sang its praises in a YouTube video. The video, now with millions of views, includes the customer launching into a LaBelle song, dancing while he eats. Once a low-selling item, the sweet potato pie is now in high-demand, and Wal-Mart claims to need at least two million pounds to meet the demand.

Some Dallas Cowboys Help Serve Early Thanksgiving Meals

Several Dallas Cowboys players spruced up their jerseys by throwing on Salvation Army aprons to serve lunch in Dallas and Fort Worth. The Cowboys will be hosting the Carolina Panthers on Thanksgiving Day to kick off The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign, where donations are collected for a food pantry, a Monday through Friday community meal program, a transitional housing program for veterans and a general emergency fund. It also supports the Angel Tree Program, which provides food boxes and toys for registered families.

Amazon’s Ingenious Scheme to Undermine Black Friday

In an effort to drive even more sales this Black Friday, Amazon has amped up its sale-offerings and dedicated an entire page to those looking for the deals. New deals will be added as often as every five minutes on Amazon’s dedicated Black Friday page and in an effort to also engage mobile shoppers, Amazon is offering 'app-only’ deals and a feature called ‘watch a deal’ which will send notifications to a consumers smartphones once the offer is live.

#Friendsgiving: Izze Pushes Holiday Hashtag With Instagram Hack

The hashtag #Friendsgiving has been the buzzword with millennials around the holidays, and sparkling juice brand Izze is aiming to capitalize on it with a new Instagram hack that uses a series of questions to help people find the perfect recipe for their own Friendsgiving or celebration. The company’s new holiday campaign, which also plays out on Amazon, Pinterest and its own website, is part of a bigger platform called #Friendsday, which celebrates get-togethers with millennials.
