Each year, approximately 177,000 adults aged 65 and older are hospitalized in the U.S. due to respiratory syncytial (RSV), and an estimated 14,000 of those cases result in death. As RSV is becoming more common, global biopharma company GSK wanted to partner with a well-known athlete and public health advocate to raise awareness about this disease. The public figure that checks off all those boxes is former NBA player, Magic Johnson. This campaign, titled the “Sideline RSV,” is running on RSV’s website, Facebook and Instagram. On these channels, you can find a video of Johnson explaining what RSV is, as well as a link to learn more. Although the campaign is unbranded, this campaign is being launched as GSK is awaiting a decision from the FDA on its RSV vaccine.
