Tom Coyne, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Coyne PR, has been named CEO of the Year by the PRNEWS Platinum Awards. Additionally, the agency won in the External Publications Category for its work with Express Scripts Pharmacy.
The Platinum Awards set industry standards for excellence across all areas of public relations. Entrants are from corporations, agencies and nonprofits that took chances, made tremendous strides in their communications efforts and understand the power of public relations.
“For more than three decades Tom has been dedicated to out-of-the-box thinking, leading some of the most innovative campaigns in the industry,” said Rich Lukis, President of Coyne PR. “He shows up every day with the goal of making a difference in the lives of employees, clients and those across the industry. There truly is no one better suited for the title of CEO of the Year.”
Since founding Coyne PR in 1991 as a young 22-year-old, Tom has emerged as a true industry leader guiding a world-class agency that serves some of the highest-profile clients in the world. Building the company from the ground up, Tom has established Coyne PR as one of the top independent firms in the country.
“Thank you to PRNews for a fantastic night,” said Tom Coyne, CEO of Coyne PR. “I accept this award on behalf of the work of my entire leadership team, who work side by side with me to make the best decisions for clients and our team every day!”
Tom’s title is CEO, but this could very well stand for Chief Energy Officer, because his drive, spirit, dedication, and encouragement fuel the agency’s employees to give their best every day. With a singular mission “to create the best place to work,” Tom has built a one-of-a-kind firm that defies traditional agency mentality, continually fostering culture, creativity and collaboration.
Respected by his staff, clients and peers, Tom has built a reputation for always doing the right thing. It was Tom’s conviction to maintain 100% of the staff throughout the length of the pandemic that allowed the agency to rebound so quickly. His foresight to invest in office space, when others were shutting their doors, allowed people to return to the office while safely social distancing. His ambition to create a more diverse agency led to the formation of a DE&I committee and forward-leaning policies that increased diversity by 37%. It was Tom who reallocated the firm’s marketing budget in support of the agency’s “#Unfriend Hate” campaign. Finally, it was Tom who donated agency resources during the pandemic to struggling collegiate PR programs and established an open-source website to help college students.
